Bollywood in "Am'rica"

Last weekend, Slumdog Millionaire took home eight Academy Awards in the following categories: best picture, directing, music (song), music (score), film editing, sound mixing, cinematography, and writing (adapted screenplay). Some experts believe that people who enjoyed Slumdog Millionaire will also enjoy other Bollywood films. They also believe that Bollywood films will become more popular in the coming years and will hold a dominant position in the United States film industry. Others are not so supportive of this prediction. They claim that international cinema comes in waves to the US and believe that this is just one of those waves. I agree with the latter. Although many people really liked Slumdog Millionaire, I think they are plenty of people who didn't enjoy it. Everyone's tastes are different which is summarized in the following quote from Priya Joshi, an observer of Bollywood films:

"Bollywood is not for everyone... People who love Adam Sandler movies are not going to line up to see Bollywood films."

Time will only tell how influential Bollywood films will be in the United States, but for now I believe that they won't be taking over.
