Michael Bloomberg, the mayor of New York City, said in an interview a few days ago that "We love the rich people." This outraged many New Yorkers who now believe Mayor Bloomberg is out of touch with the people. Bloomberg, one of the richest (if not
the richest) men in New York, said he meant that in an economic sense. Although people making over $500,000 (seriously, what do they do?) only make up 1% of the population in New York, they account for roughly 50% of the income taxes collected by the city. He also goes on to say that "The rich are innovators. They create jobs for the rest of us."
How do you feel about Mr. Bloomberg's comment(s)? Do you love the rich? As for me, I wouldn't go as far as saying I love the rich, but I do think they are important members of our society. They are very productive (most of the time anyway), and many of them give back to the community. So I would say I like the rich, but I am not but I am not head-over-heels in love with them.
