Outside Reading Blog Post #4

Tonight, I read an article about the recounting of the Minnesota U.S. Senate votes. According to the article, the massive hand recount began today. The recount is so important because the Democrats are only a few seats away from a filibuster. This means that there would be more Democrats than Republicans in the Senate making it easier for them to pass certain bills. In a race as close as this one, every vote counts. That is why Al Franken and his attorneys called for the recount. They argued that forty-nine out of Minnesota's eighty-seven counties failed to correctly canvass the results of the election. They asked the Canvassing Board to reconsider the rejected ballots that could add hundreds of votes to Al Franklin's total. Currently, Norm Coleman is leading by only 215 votes making this election the closest election in Minnesota's history.
