If you have driven to Minneapolis lately, you've noticed that the freeway is under construction. According to the article I read today, this project is said to be completed in 4 to 8 years! Some motorists are curious as to why this is. Afterall, the 35W bridge only took 11 months to construct and complete. The answer is incentive. The company that recently built the bridge is eligible to recieve an extra 25 million dollars for finishing early. The company that is working on the freeway, will not see such a reward for completing early. So why work as hard? Mary Peters, Transportation Secretary, hopes that large projects such as this one will be completed more quickly in the future. She says, "It shouldn't take a tragedy to build a bridge this fast in America."
